Principles from Lesson 7

• In summoning the entity it must be remembered there is a part of that entity in you as well as a higher part.  Always show respect and humility to the higher part when talking to it.
• When you’ve finished your conversation with the entity, thank it and bid it farewell.
• The summoned spirits come from the collective unconscious through your reflection when you invite them to come.
• The magick of King Solomon is best used to gain wisdom and understanding of all that is around us.

Principles from Lesson 6

• Invoking is like prayer, it’s calling something down.  Evoking is calling something out of yourself.
• Don’t command or banish entities unless they are threatening.  True working with a spirit is a partnership.
• Gods, goddesses and the majority of entities are evoked, whereas angels are invoked
• Poke says evocations are best done during the waning moon.  I would disagree.  Evocations can be done at any time with equal efficiency in my experience.
• Though the entire rituals are not necessary unless you are into ceremonial magick, it is important to establish your role as summoner and call upon the guardians for protection.
• Next open the gateway.  In this video you see chanting and circumambulation  used.  I usually perform a simple Chakra opening.
• Then open the brass jar (this may be a visualisation but it helps to have an object that opens such as a canister) and before staring into the mirror concentrate on a sigil, veve, or instrument that represents the entity you wish to summon.
• Have the same symbol drawn on the mirror.  By looking from one to the other, you are creating a bridge for the entity to connect with you.

Note: The ritual you see here is not a part of the actual Goetic summonings, it is in addition and used to become familiar with the guardians of the quarters.  Though you may choose not to use it, make sure to at least brief the principles below before proceeding to part 6

Principles from Lesson 5

• The suggestion of conducting a separate ceremony to commune with the guardian angels of the four directions first is a good safety measure if you’re just starting out.  Later on you will feel secure with the knowledge you have of them.  When your chosen entity appears during an actual summoning session it’s easy to become frightened and unsure of yourself.  By working with the four angels you remind yourself that you are protected if you’re connected to the divine.
• Though you don’t need to ritualistically call on the angels for protection if you already are aware of their presence and protection, it’s far easier to focus on and be aware of four than to go through the process of calling on all the angels which have control over the entity you’ve chosen to summon should you choose to do so.
• The Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram is a very effective ritual for both opening portals and banishing negative elements.  It’s effective because it has been performed so many times.  However, you need not perform this ritual to  accomplish the effects mentioned above during your summoning.  The important aspects of this ritual are: the acknowledgement there is a force greater than you which keeps order and in asking this force to protect you by sending guardian aspects of itself to oversee and protect you during your magickal working prior to the actual act of summoning.
• Keep in mind that you enter a dangerous place if you attempt to summon entities without feeling a connection with the divine.

Principles from Lesson 4

• When you summon, you are not calling upon beasts from Hell.  The spirits called upon in Goetic magick are those of the old gods and goddesses.  They were classified as demons by the monotheistic religions such as Christianity.
• The circle used by ceremonial magicians in a summoning ritual represents a fortress.  Someone new to this type of magick should definitely draw a physical circle.  The sight of it gives courage and reminds the summoner he is protected.  Later when the summoner is secure in this knowledge, he can dispense with the physical circle.  It will be sufficient for him to visualise  himself in a circle or enmeshed in a white light.
• The triangle of art in its physical form may similarly be dispensed with, in favour of an imagined one.  A magician should be fully convinced of the deity’s good will toward him before he takes this step.
• Once the circle is around you, it’s important to call on the guardians of the north, south, east and west for both protection and power to activate and maintain your circle.  These guardian spirits will take on forms that are comfortable for your belief system. Their form is not important, their essence is.Note- Before you call the guardians it’s important you have a respectful working relation with them, otherwise why would they come to your assistance?

Principles from Lesson 3

• You invoke the incarnations of the spirits through your own face.  Poke suggests using candles and a dark mirror.  This works really well, but a mirror in a light room can also be used.
• In using a black mirror and candles your face will fade, the mirror will go blank, and the face of someone or something else will appear.  In using a clear mirror generally your face will just distort and transform into that of something or someone else.Don’t be surprised if more than a face appears.  During some of my summoning sessions I’ve seen 1 or more partial and full bodies.  If you want greater odds of  seeing the full body I suggest using a full length mirror in the triangle of art.
• Not only the 73 spirits of the Goetia can be summoned in this manner, gods and goddesses may as well.
• When summoning the mirror must be upright and not flat
• If you’re troubled that you’re making the whole thing up, there is a solution.  The flaw in the solution is that in order for it to work you must find a partner who is as serious about the art as you.  That being said, if you find such a person, you can use them as a medium by putting them in front of you so they work as the distortion (both to form it and to speak for it).Personally, I prefer to make it a solitaire event.  For some reason I feel much more in tune and connected to who I summon.  I’m happier with no middle man.

Principles from Lesson 2

• Sigils and reflective surfaces such as mirrors are used as focuses to put people in a trances or hypnotic states
• The summoning begins with your imagination.  Before the spirits physically move from their locations to manifest to you, they will begin to rise and form in your mind.
• The effects of all Magick is both powerful and subjective.  Don’t expect Hollywood effects.  They can happen at times but they are definitely not the norm.
• The human mind is a miniature working duplication of the vast Universe.  What happens within it will eventually manifest into the physical world in some manner.  Though this was taught by magicians for centuries, it was Carl Jung that presented it in a scientific manner with his teachings on what he called the ‘collective unconscious’.
• Results come from adding methods and techniques to your imagination.
• To summon you must be in a hypnotic state and have a reflective surface to see the spirit.  You do not, as once believed, have to be a medium.

• Don’t practice Goetic magick unless you are a mature person who is both physically and mentally sound.
• Approach this discipline with all the soberness a student practising a full contact martial art would have for his.  Carelessness in this discipline could get you hurt or even killed.
• Goetic Magick isn’t about making evil pacts, it is a system of summoning and working with powerful spirits, both those on higher and lower vibrational levels.
• No unique talents or abilities are required to practice Goetic magick.  All you need is imagination and determination.
• There are two chief schools of thought  about what the spirits are, among those who practice Goetic Magick.  The first school sees them as independent spirits whilst the second sees them as parts of our mind (the second school of thought was first made popular by Aleister Crowley).You will note that the magician on the video, Poke Runyon, holds to the second view.  Personally I believe something more in-between the two to be true.  I believe the spirits are independent but they have been fleshed out by the collective unconscious. The spirits exist in their own realm as unique beings until we connect with them and bring them into ours shaping them with our imaginations.

Now I’m sitting in my favourite setee, head filled with thoughts, and my faithful Taz mug filled to the brim with aromatic coffee at my side.  The world is becoming a bit friendlier and more comfortable=)

This morning I was thinking about a comment I made to Lyn the other day.  I told her “We must not have put enough van van oil in the tub, think of all the unfortunate situations we found ourselves in today”  We were nearly in two major car accidents (neither our fault and both escaped only by Lyn’s vigilance and reflexes).

As I mulled this way of thinking over, the spirits pulled me up short and showed me I was looking at the situations in completely the wrong manner.  Rather than focusing on the stupidity of the other drivers and what might have occurred, I should instead be focusing on the joy of being alive and having a spouse still in one piece (after the initial adrenaline rush of course).

When that sunk all the way in and thankfulness began to flow, the spirits (as they so often do in my life) decided to take this kernel of truth and expand it.

Any magick can appear weak or even non-effective if after creating it your focus is on its lack of accomplishment.  If you aren’t getting the exact results you desire, subtle energies must be torqued to make them more personalised. Working with magick is brilliant!  It’s 100% guaranteed to work, though not always in the exact way you imagined.  By manipulating the energies to get what you envision you automatically create ties with the Source of all Magick and transform into an even greater practitioner.  And this living partnership continues for the duration of your life on this plane.
